Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English literature. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debates in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. She covered a wide range of notable stories, including arm control, budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively with the President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
